I am headed to UC Irvine to give a talk for the Mediated Futures: Interdisciplinary Graduate Conference, April 25-26, 2025. I am going to present on “Queergaming, Asianfuturism, Alternative Futures & Worlds.” The conference is sponsored by the department of East Asian Studies; the department of Art History and Visual Studies; the Environmental Humanities Center; the Center for Critical Korean Studies; the Japanese Studies Research Cluster; the International Center for Writing and Translation; and UCI’s School of Humanities.

Here’s the full line-up:

In conjunction with the conference, I will be giving a presentation for the Diversity and Games Speaker Series entitled “A Mile in Whose Shoes?: Race, Queerness, and Gaming while Asian.” The talk is sponsored by the Critical Approaches to Technology and the Social (CATS) Lab; the Steckler Center for Responsible, Ethical, and Accessible Technology (CREATE); Illuminations: The Chancellor’s Arts & Culture Initiative; the UCI Humanities Center’s Building Intellectual Community Initiative; and the Mediated Futures Graduate Student Conference.

I’ve only visited UC Irvine once in 2019 for SLSA. This will give me a chance to see more of the campus and the area. Many thanks to the organizers of the conference and the speaker series (with special shout outs to Aaron Trammell and Bo Ruberg).
